Inspired by a grassroots ethos and born of a bi-coastal collaboration, Artbeats is an art and performance event that taps into the heart of San Francisco’s culture across all genres, forms and mediums.
Informed by the affordable art fair model and fortified by the music and street art scenes in San Francisco, Artbeats aims to honor those who breathe life and true creativity into the cultural landscape of the Bay Area.
Artbeats was founded with deep roots in the arts and music world. Artbeats’ co-founder Jeff Whitmore, the founder of Public Works and co-founder of Mighty, has been wrangling artists and musicians from across the globe to play and perform at his venue and is a key figure in the arts and music community in San Francisco. Fellow co-founder Kelsey Marie of Brooklyn’s Fountain Art Fair brings her curatorial eye and years of grassroots art experience to the fold.
Quick to hop on board was Lauren Napolitano, former Assistant Director of White Walls and Shooting Gallery, a San Francisco staple whose doors have been open for over 10 years. She has also worked with SCOPE Art Fair in both Miami and New York, and Moniker Projects in London.
Shortly there after, Artbeats gained Peter Arko, producer and music curator for NightLife at the California Academy of Sciences. He also runs Ears of the Beholder (event production, blog and music consulting services) and co-founded the SXSW series, MEGABLAAG.
Collaborating with leading non-profit arts organizations and other cultural institutions in the Bay Area, Artbeats provides an expression of the true creators.
Artbeats provides a platform for artists to exhibit work without the restriction of space, economics, or arbitrary rules.
